Press Release on Turkmenistan Minister of Justice Begmurat Muhamedov’s Three-Day Official Visit to Singapore

The Minister of Justice of the Republic of Turkmenistan Begmurat Muhamedov visited Singapore from 21 to 23 November 2019 to further legal exchange and cooperation with the Singapore Ministry of Law (MinLaw).

This is the first visit by Minister Begmurat Muhamedov following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Legal Field during the Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow’s State Visit to Singapore in August this year.

During this visit, Minister Begmurat Muhamdov met with Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam and Senior Minister of State for Law and Health Edwin Tong. He attended briefings on Singapore’s approach to law making, legal education, legal services regulation, intellectual property management, and land use. He also met with representatives from the Singapore Academy of Law, the Singapore Institute of Legal Education and the three Singapore law schools to exchange views on legal education.

Minister Begmurat Muhamdov also visited the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC), Maxwell Chambers and the newly refurbished Maxwell Chambers Suites to understand Singapore’s strengths as an international dispute resolution hub, and the services and facilities provided in Singapore to meet the increasing demand for international dispute resolution.

The Minister also toured the Singapore City Gallery at Urban Redevelopment Authority Centre, where he was briefed on Singapore’s landscape transformation over the past 50 years and Singapore’s urban planning efforts. He also visited the National Museum as well as the ‘From Singapore to Singaporean: The Bicentennial Experience’ show at Fort Canning Centre.
