Terminate the Licence or Registration of a Law Practice Entity
To terminate the licence of a Singapore Law Practice ("SLP"), Foreign Law Practice ("FLP"), Qualifying Foreign Law Practice ("QFLP"), Joint Law Venture ("JLV") or Formal Law Alliance ("FLA"), or the registration of a Group Practice ("GP") or Representative Office ("RO"), please follow the steps below.

STEP 1: Login to LSRA e-Services
|
|
- Please login to Government-to-Business (G2B) digital services in Singapore using SingPass. For more information, please visit here.
|
- FLAs and GPs do not have SingPass. To update the particulars of an FLA or a GP, login to LSRA e-Services using the SingPass details of one of the member law practices.
|
STEP 2: Complete and submit termination form |
|
- Before completing the termination form, you may wish to refer to the User Guide on the LSRA e-Services portal. Please note that the sample forms are provided for reference only and cannot be used for submission to the LSRA.
- No fees will be charged for the termination.
- The completed application form must be signed by the Managing Partner / Managing Director / Manager (or equivalent) of the proposed law practice entity, and if applicable, its constituent / member law practices.
- If you are terminating the licence because you are changing to a different legal structure, please ensure that you first apply via LSRA e-Services for a licence for a new entity. After the licence has been issued, you should applying for new Certificates of Registration for all the individuals under the new law practice.
- To ensure continuity of operations, the last day of operation of the existing entity should be the day before the requested start date of the new entity and Certificates of Registration.

Please note that the Certificates of Registration of all individuals registered under the law practice will be automatically terminated on the same date as the approved cessation date of the law practice.

Please also note that the termination of the licence may not necessarily terminate the obligations of the regulated legal practitioners and regulated non-practitioners under the Legal Profession Act (Cap. 161) and the rules made thereunder (such as, but not limited to, the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct) Rules 2015, Legal Profession (Accountant’s Report) Rules, Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Accounts) Rules and Legal Profession (Law Practice Entities) Rules 2015).

- A JLV or an FLA is required to terminate the existing entity and submit a new application if there is a change in the constituent/member law practices.
- A GP is not required to terminate the existing entity if there is a change in the member law practices. This can be done via an update application.

STEP 3: Receive outcome of application
|
|
- The application may take about 3-16 weeks to process, commencing when all required supporting documents and information have been received. Applications that are incomplete, complex or submitted during the peak period from January to March may require more time to process. Therefore, you may wish to submit your application at least 16 weeks in advance.
- The LSRA will seek clarification or further information from the Main Contact of the Application.

STEP 4: Notify relevant stakeholders

- Singapore advocates and solicitors are required under the Legal Profession Act to notify the Registrar of the Supreme Court and the Council of the Law Society through eLitigation of their intention to cease practice.
- Singapore advocates and solicitors should also notify Lockton Companies (Singapore) Pte Ltd (the Law Society of Singapore’s professional indemnity broker) and their clients of their intention to cease practice.
